Hearing Aids

We are at the cutting edge of technology Digital hearing aids are the latest and most advanced technology available today. This technology gives the audiologist maximum control over sound quality and sound processing, creating a hearing aid tailored to your specific hearing requirements identified from your hearing test results.

Unlike most hearing aid dispensing companies we are totally independent, this gives us a choice of over 1000 different product variations enabling us to pick the right hearing aid for you.

Types of Hearing Aid

Mini Behind The Ear (BTE)

Suitable for every type of hearing loss from mild to severe. The ear mould is custom made to fit your ear shape and the main components are housed externally.

Companies manufacturing this style of aid have made significant improvements in recent years by decreasing the size whilst maintaining the quality of sound.

In The Ear (ITE)

This style is suitable for most degrees of hearing loss. The aid is larger and so slightly easier to use than the smaller styles but cosmetically they may be more apparent.

These hearing aids fit comfortably and securely in the ear. Clients report that they can be more comfortable than most ‘Behind-The-Ear’ (BTE) aids.

Open Ear (RIC)

These types of aids are suitable for mild to moderate hearing loses. This is the most popular style of hearing aid on the market. They are lightweight and leave the ear open. Users often forget they are wearing them.

These devices are very discreet as they sit on top of the ear under your hair with thin tubing going directly into the ear canal.

Mini Canal & CIC

This hearing aid is suitable for mild to moderate hearing loss. It is a custom made device that is only really visible to others close up.

CIC aids are the smallest hearing aid style with the best cosmetic attributes – they are the least visible.

Battery life is rather short because the batteries are so small. The size of the aid can make the instrument tricky to handle.

Power BTE

Power Hearing Aids. For the profound hearing loss, power with noise control and all the benefits of digital aids are now available.

Buying a Hearing Aid

As you trawl through dozens of internet websites and hearing aid companies offering you a myriad of different hearing aids at different prices there are a few things you should consider.

Quoted ‘cheap’ hearing aids normally end up costing you a lot more. If you don’t have the back up or the ability to call in and see your dispenser there will be problems and disappointment, there always is.

You should shop around, your hearing aids are going to be a long term investment and you need to make sure you are buying the right product at the right price from the right people.

Don’t be swayed by ‘too good to be true’ offers. There are always strings attached.

When comparing prices make sure they are for ‘like for like’ products, service and aftercare.

Aftercare is most important. Over the next 5 years your hearing aids will need to be maintained, fine tuned and reset as your hearing changes. Wherever you decide to buy your hearing aids make sure they are a local company who will be willing to help.

Only buy from the leading manufacturers, these include Phonak, Oticon, Widex, Siemens, Resound, Starkey, Bernafon & Puretone. Buying unknown brands or dispensing companies own brands usually means you buying old or unsupported technology, always ask!!
